Three French Hens

12-19 SATURDAY

Saturday morning found me up bright and early. After breakfast, I headed out immediately, and made a beeline for Secret Treasures, a lingerie shop that was run by a friend of mine, Nicholas Frost. I’d made his acquaintance last year when I’d gotten my first request for a wedding night lingerie basket. He’d been able to put together something tasteful for me for a few hundred dollars, thrilling my client doubly by staying within her budget.

I was waiting when Nicholas unlocked the door, and he smiled as he let me in. “You know, I think you’re the only repeat customer that shows up to wait outside the door in the morning, Cy. What are you looking for today?”

“French teddies,” I answered. “Lots of lace and ribbons, and possibly a feather boa, if you have it.”

“You know I have it,” he teased, batting his eyes at me. “What colors are you looking at for a boa? Red and black are the most asked for.”

“Weirdly enough, I want to know if you have any feathers that aren’t dyed, that look more natural?”

“That’s not something I get asked for a lot, but I think I do have a natural boa,” Nicholas said, heading to the back of the shop, me following him. “You’re going to get more of a cream and brown coloration.” He came out of the back with a fluffy boa that looked like it was made with chicken feathers. “I only got this one, in case someone came in asking for something with no bleach or dyes because of allergies. This is pheasant, I think.”

I took it. “That’s great, I’ll take it. Do you have any lingerie that’s French?”

“Sure,” he said, pointing to various shelves. “I’m guessing you want something that’s not for every day. It depends on what you want to spend. You can get Chantal Thomas, Chantelle, Yse, or Maison Lejaby for about forty dollars per piece, with a few hundred for a teddy outfit complete with stockings and garter belt and hair accessories. The higher end brands are Aubade, Eres, and Lise Charmel, but you’re going to be spending at least eighty to a hundred dollars for a bra and between three and five hundred for a whole teddy setup, if not more.” He paused. “I have other brands, if you decide that there’s nothing we have that will suit your client’s taste.”

Hmm. I looked at some of the bras and panties he had on the shelves, but nothing seemed right. “My client has a good body, but more of these seem to be for someone with no actual fat who works out at least two hours a day like Linda Hamilton in Terminator 2,” I said finally. “She has to feel comfortable in this, as well as her husband liking it.”

“Which as every intelligent man knows is two different things. Then my advice is to skip the French teddy,” Nicholas said, directing me to another display. “Why not try this chemise, it’s called The Showstopper.
